Why Buying A Modular Extension Would Be A Mistake

There is one notable exception though: modular extensions.

For those of you who aren’t aware of them, modular extensions are prefabricated buildings largely constructed inside of a factory, rather than built from scratch at an outdoor plot of land.

Because they’re very much ready-built, once transported to the relevant site, it doesn’t take long at all to install them. It’s feasible to have a modular extension fitted within just a few days.

This will be attractive to those who want an extension quickly and minimal disruption caused at their home during the installation process.

What else will appeal to many people is that modular extensions are inexpensive compared to your standard extensions.

Don’t be sold in by any of this! They’re cheaper for a reason, well, several reasons actually.

Firstly, they’re not built to the same standard as traditional extensions and the materials used to construct them are often second-rate.

How long a modular extension lasts can vary, but generally, it has a far shorter lifespan than extensions made up of bricks and mortar.

And, on the topic of bricks and mortar, due to modular extensions not featuring any of it, they are classified as being non-standard constructions.

This is significant as getting a mortgage for a house with a non-standard construction can be problematic. What is the relevance of this? Well, if you ever want to sell your house and it has a non-standard construction, buyers may be in short supply because of the difficulty of securing a mortgage.

You should also note that you will get very little opportunity to customise a modular extension – the design is very much set in stone.
