Layout

The layout of your kitchen is key to ensuring that you get the most out of the space. 

One of the best-known kitchen layouts is the ‘kitchen working triangle’, where a sink, oven and refrigerator are roughly laid out in a triangular formation, done so to help you efficiently carry out kitchen tasks. 

There’s also the open-plan layout, omitting any partitions and walls from the space so that you can enjoy easier interaction with other family members in the kitchen. You can go U-shaped and L-shaped too. 

Ample storage

Kitchens are full of all sorts of ‘stuff’, from utensils to canned food, and you want them kept out of the way so that the space stays clutter-free. 

How cool would it be to have those utensils hanging above a kitchen island or to put your most attractive crockery on display on some open shelving. The canned items could always be homed in a pantry or larder.

Colour

It’s easy to be daunted by the thought of choosing a colour scheme but there’s no need to be. 

Analyse the colour wheel and locate colours on it that are likely to complement each other – often, they will sit next to each other on the wheel. 

If you want a calm and cosy kitchen atmosphere, neutral tones and pastels will do the trick, or choose a more energetic colour to reflect the kitchen being a constant hive of activity.
