Why Boiling Water Taps Might Be More Practical Than You Think

If you are giving serious consideration to renovating your kitchen then there’s a fair chance you’ve been thinking about what kind of extras you might want. Worktops and units might be the bread and butter of any kitchen refit but it’s the added extras and appliances that arguably bring the room to life and give that extra sparkle.

Whether it’s the American style double fridge, ice maker or even the Bluetooth enabled toaster (yes, it is a thing!), there are plenty to choose from. One item that might have caught your eye however and which has steadily grown in popularity in recent years is the boiling water tap. No, you didn’t read that wrong – a tap that dispenses boiling water.

The more traditional among you will rightly be asking the questions: “Isn’t that what my kettle is for, how does it work?”, “Why would I possibly need boiling water on tap?” and “What would I gain from having one?”. The answer to most of these, as with most technological advancements, is you won’t know until you’ve had one. But don’t be fooled into thinking a boiling water tap is a gimmick, far from it and in this new blog we’ll answer these questions to give you an insight into what having a boiling water tap in your kitchen entails.

How they work?

At Bon Accord Glass we supply our customers with Quooker (pronounced cooker) boiling water taps. A well regarded and robust system designed by Dutch engineers and the following explanation is specific to Quooker products.

The key to the Quooker tap and the back bone on which the system operates is the tank. All tanks are vacuum insulated and designed to minimize heat loss, making the appliance extremely heat efficient and compact. So compact in fact that it can fit in drawer units. The tank is then connected directly to the water supply which fills the tank and heats the water to 110C which is then purified through a water filter guaranteeing cleanliness.

The water then cools down to 100C as it flows from the tap with absolutely no time needed to wait for water to get up to temperature due to the heat retaining properties of the tank. If the whole tank is emptied it simply fills up again and is reheated in a couple of minutes.

Usage

So, what is a boiling water tap for? Boiling water, right? Well, yes that would be the obvious answer but dig a little deeper and the uses are endless. From instant cups of tea or coffee to cooking vegetables to more domestic uses like cleaning pots and pans and other rooms . And all in an instant. Advantages

Of course, whilst boiling water on tap is undoubtedly very useful (and it is!) the real question is how is having a boiling water tap going to benefit me? The good news is that there are numerous advantages, financial and otherwise to having a boiling water tap installed in your home.

1. Energy Efficient

This is perhaps the most important and tangible advantage of a boiling water tap. Since you only dispense the exact amount of boiling water required your wastage is essentially 0%. Add to that the fact that once the water is boiled you won’t have to reheat it, you can be certain that you are maximising energy efficiency which will have a positive knock on effect on energy bills in the process.

2. Faster

The most obvious advantage for sure, but worth repeating. You don’t have to wait for boiling water again. Ever! There’s a reason the saying goes “a watched kettle never boils” and with a boiling water tap you’ll soon forget what that even meant in the first place!

3. Safer

Boiling water is dangerous, that much is obvious, but you’d be forgiven for thinking that a tap that dispenses nothing but hot water would be more precarious, not less. Well you’d be wrong and if you have small children you can take heart from the fact that all Quooker taps come equipped with a push-and-turn handle to prevent unintended dispensing. In addition, the tap height can be adjusted to ensure water hits directly where it’s intended so no risk of painful splash back.

With concrete safety features, a compelling energy saving story and undoubted ease of use, boiling water taps are fast becoming a must have feature in the kitchen.
