Why A Composite Door Might Be For You
You shouldn’t underestimate the impact a new front door can have not just on your entranceway, but the entire house. This makes replacing an old front door trickier than you may have originally imagined as the styling of the new door needs to be exactly right.
Don’t be intimidated by the idea of investing in a new door though, enjoy the process and investigate options like the composite door as it ticks all the boxes.
About the composite door
It was in the 1990’s that composite doors first started to be developed and began to cut into the market share enjoyed by UPVC doors.
UPVC doors and composite doors are considerably different as a UPVC door is largely constructed from plastic, while several materials are utilised to build a composite door, including UPVC and wood. There is also a GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) wrapping on a composite door and right in the middle of it is thick polyurethane foam.
The use of multiple materials to fashion a composite door explains why this door solution is one of the strongest and most resilient you can buy. Virtually nothing can get the better of composite doors.
A look of timber
You could very easily mistake a composite door for an authentic timber door as they look amazingly alike in appearance due to the prominent woodgrain effect present in a composite door. However, a similarity in looks is the only thing they share.
Frequent upkeep is needed to maintain the appearance and performance of a wooden door, but a fraction of this maintenance is required to keep a composite looking and performing at its best. You won’t even have to bother repainting, varnishing or sanding it as it can be completely left alone. Whenever it gets dirty, you can get it gleaming again with a wet soapy cloth.
Composite doors also come with more colour options as pretty much any RAL colour can be recreated in a composite door design. This wide spectrum of colours enables you to find a door colour that complements all house styles, whether that happens to be a new-build property or period home.
Excellent energy efficiency
You rely on your front door to keep the inside of house protected from the weather, especially the hallway. The standard of energy efficiency offered by a composite door is exceptionally high thanks to its incredibly low U-Values. The energy savings you make after its installation will eventually cover your investment into the door.
